Okay. The book I am going to review is none other than the very famous Half-Girlfriend by the very controversial and criticized author, Chetan Bhagat.

Chetan Bhagat, he is one person who can be loved, criticized, hated but you never ever can avoid him. While some people find him monotonous, there are some people who enjoy his writings. But, having said that, the fact that his books have a Bollywood touch is just unavoidable.

Book: Half Girlfirend

Author: Chetan Bhagat

Publisher: Rupa Publications

Pages: 260

Price: 150

As we all know, undoubtedly, Chetan Bhagat have made us speechless with his astonishing book, 2 States. This Half-Girlfriend is a similar attempt which did not reach the audience like how the 2 States did.

The story revolves around a Bihari boy called Madhav Jha who is from a village called Dumraon and a rich girl called Riya from Delhi. Like in all Bhagat's other books, the boy suffers from low self-esteem and is not rich and the girl he chases is very talented, beautiful and rich.

Madhav comes to Delhi to pursue his graduation in St. Stephen's college where he meets Riya. He fell in love with her immediately. The book then revolves around how both of them become close friends and how Madhav falls in love with Riya. Riya then agrees to be his Half-Girlfriend. Confused Madhav, who did not understand what a Half-Girlfriend could be, takes advantage and at some point shows his typical backward behavior by saying "Deti hai toh de varna kat le” which means 'F*** me or F*** off" in English.

Then the book just tells you like all Bollywood movies about their breakup and their patch-up with some twist and turns.

This book can make a super hit movie. It's a pure Bollywood Love flick. I seriously think Bhagat should think out of box and give us something new. If he continue like this, his followers are going to fade away soon in the near future.

My Rating: 3/5

You can pick this book if you are a Chetan Bhagat fan and if you like his romantic flicks. Anyways, wait till this book hits the theater!!!

  1. CB definitely knows the A-Z of 'marketing' ...all his books are bestsellers, after all, even with such weak plots and weaker flow of words. Good review.
